Not your usual holly jolly Christmas record. This is a dark, somber, introspective look at this holiday season. "Symphonique de las Almas" (Symphony of the Souls) is an instrumental ensemble of internationally acclaimed classical artists who have come together for the first time to perform a collection of innovative acoustic Christmas carols, folk songs and Gregorian chants. Rather than the oft-heard brass trumpeting of the holiday season, this blend of flute, English horn, cello, acoustic guitar, and electric bass captures the true pensive and contemplative spirit of the season. The songs span from the 12th century to the present, with origins in many different cultures, yet they evoke a common emotion among all who hear them. "From a Distant Home", the title track, is a traditional Puerto Rican folk song. "In the Bleak Mid-Winter" musically captures and depicts the somberness of the season. "Nino Lindo" is a vibrant melody that echoes the rich culture of Venezuela. These are but a few of the many more traditional seasonal songs done in a non-traditional way. The digital mastering and sonic enhancement process employed on this project makes this truly, an award winning listening experience. |
